On April 23, 2026, representatives from BAMA, MACF, MSCA, SAMA, and SRMA came together for a collaborative event that focused on rethinking traditional talent strategies by highlighting an often-overlooked workforce with significant potential.
Participants experienced “Impact Through Industry,” where they observed workers actively producing goods and demonstrating the technical skills they had developed through hands-on training. The program showcased nearly 40 job training pathways, including manufacturing-focused disciplines, designed to equip inmates with real-world experience. It was emphasized that individuals who participated in these programs were significantly less likely to reoffend after release compared to those who did not.
Attendees also had the opportunity to visit Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes, where students were completing projects and working toward industry-recognized certifications.
The event included a comprehensive tour of Polk Correctional Institution, featuring programs such as PRIDE Upholstery, Work Readiness training (including soft skills development, mock interviews, and resume preparation), Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), and Polk State College’s Essentials of Manufacturing and Logistics. Together, these experiences illustrated the impact of industry-driven training in preparing individuals for successful workforce reintegration.
