Why Manufacturing, Why Now

Manufacturing Bills in Tallahassee

Manufacturing Bill (SB 528/HB 483)

SAMA is advocating for this legislation to be reintroduced and passed during Florida's 2027 legislative session.

Why Manufacturing Matters in Florida

Florida’s manufacturing sector is a statewide economic engine: more than 27,300 companies employing approximately 434,600 Floridians in high-wage, high-skill jobs that anchor local supply chains and strengthen the state’s economic resilience, national security, and global competitiveness. This legislation would keep manufacturing a strategic priority for Florida’s future.

Originally Filed in the 2026 Session By

  • SB 528 – Senator Keith Truenow
  • HB 483 – Representative Nan Cobb

What the Bill Would Do

  1. Establish a Chief Manufacturing Officer within FloridaCommerce (not an added FTE) — giving manufacturing a single point of accountability in state government, regardless of administration changes.
  2. Fund workforce & technology adoption through a new Florida Manufacturers’ Workforce Development Grant Program, helping small manufacturers adopt new technology, strengthen cybersecurity, and expand workforce training.
  3. Require a biennial State of Manufacturing Report, giving lawmakers reliable data to guide manufacturing policy.
  4. Launch a statewide promotional campaign highlighting Florida-made products and manufacturing careers to help attract talent.

In Summary

Manufacturing touches every legislative district in Florida. SAMA is advocating for SB 528 / HB 483 to be reintroduced and passed in 2027 to drive economic growth, workforce development, and industry competitiveness statewide.
